Author Guidelines

The Deakin Law Review welcomes submission of scholarly articles (not exceeding 10,000 – 12,000 words), essays, comments, case notes and book reviews. However, manuscripts that are published or submitted for publication elsewhere will not be accepted.

  • Footnotes should have been inserted into the manuscript using the footnoting function in Word.

N.B. This journal does not accept direct online submissions. All submissions must be sent to the editors at

Authors are required to have completed and attached a signed copyright agreement with their article in the email to the editors.


Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration. The submission is also not already available online.
  2. The author warrants that the work does not infringe any copyright or other rights held by any other party.

    Clearances for the use of any copyright material included have been obtained prior to submission.

  3. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word or RTF file format.
  4. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.

  5. The requirements of the Australian Guide to legal Citation have been followed.

  6. References have been added as footnotes using the "Footnote" functionality available in Word or Open Office.

    In addition to formal reference citation, where available, URLs for the references have been provided.

  7. Tables, using the Word or Open Office "Tables" functionalty have not been inserted into the text.
