Abstract

This practitioner reflection piece discusses and evaluates the experiences of the authors overseeing undergraduate research internship projects in the discipline of history. It considers the opportunities such a scheme can afford the intern, and the potential for contribution to historical scholarship.

Author Biographies

  • Marc Collinson, Bangor University, Wales

    Dr Marc Collinson teaches contemporary history and politics. An active political historian of post-war Britain, Dr Collinson is interested in electoral phenomena (including by-elections), political parties, and policymaking. A former School employability lead and current Programme Lead for Bangor’s BA Politics provision, he is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

  • Lowri Ann Rees, Bangor University

    Dr Lowri Ann Rees is a Senior Lecturer in Modern History at Bangor University. She teaches modules largely on eighteenth and nineteenth century Welsh and British history and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, including PhD’s. Having previously been Director of Teaching and Learning for her School, she is currently the School Employability Officer. She holds a PGCert qualification in Teaching in Higher Education and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
